Senior Mechanical Engineer — Consulting

About the Role
Metec is a team of consulting engineers with over 200 years of combined experience across commercial and mixed-use residential developments. We're known for technically rigorous work, a genuine commitment to sustainability, and a culture that invests in its people.
We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is ready to take clear ownership of projects from concept through to construction and who can bring the same standards to the engineers around them.
This is not an entry point. It's a role for someone who has already built a strong technical foundation and is ready to operate with greater autonomy, lead design teams, and make a direct impact on project outcomes.
Please note: This is an office-based role based in Ireland. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Ireland and currently residing in the country. Applications from those based outside Ireland cannot be considered.
What We're Looking For
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
Demonstrable experience at senior level across a range of building project types
Deep knowledge of relevant Irish and European standards and regulations
A track record of leading and reviewing the work of junior and intermediate engineers
Strong project management capability — able to plan, resource, and deliver on time and within budget
Confident technical communicator, with experience producing specifications, reports, and contract documentation
Proficient in relevant design software
A natural collaborator who can coordinate effectively across multidisciplinary teams
Your Responsibilities
At this level, you'll be expected to lead, not just contribute. Day to day, that means:
Full project ownership: planning, management, and delivery across multiple concurrent projects
Production and review of design documentation, specifications, and contract packages
Leading mechanical system design and taking responsibility for technical quality across your team's output
Reviewing and signing off on work produced by intermediate and junior engineers
Coordinating with architects, structural engineers, and other disciplines throughout the design process
Contributing to and leading conceptual design studies
Active mentoring of junior team members, sharing knowledge, raising standards, and supporting their development
Cost estimation and budget management across your project portfolio
